The Course
The complete Pregnancy Pilates course has been designed by Ceri and is specifically for mums-to-be. This is a 6 week course that is run concurrently at our studio. Our ladies typically join us for up to 4 blocks, depending on where their due dates sits. Every week has a different topic and every block is different.
After the 6 weeks, there is a free 2 hour workshop. This is designed with our mums in mind and can also include your partner. It will hopefully sum up the 6 weeks for you and will concentrate on everyones favourite bits of the course – so we need feedback to build the workshop for you.
We have a registered midwife in attendance most weeks (depending on her duty rosta) and she will be on hand to answer any questions you may have (either in person or, when she’s not here, on email). We have a maximum number of 10 ladies with us at any class. This keeps the number to a manageable level – ideal for some individual attention if required.
After the first week we will issue you with a password to enter the Pregnancy Members Area on our website – this will have all the material from the previous week.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1455796546322{padding: 15px !important;background-color: #fce5fc !important;}”][vc_images_carousel images=”2021,2023,2017,2019″ onclick=”link_no” custom_links_target=”_self” mode=”horizontal” speed=”5000″ slides_per_view=”1″ autoplay=”yes” hide_pagination_control=”yes” hide_prev_next_buttons=”yes” img_size=”221×423″ title=”Sarah’s Journey”][vc_column_text]Sarah has been with us throughout her pregnancy and postnatal, showing a true journey of fitness from beginning to end.

CERISPORT & ME ~ A review from a happy mum!
GOOD FOR THE BODY…
While I can’t claim to have been a fitness fanatic pre-pregnancy, when low blood pressure became a feature from my 2nd trimester, meaning I was unable to undertake any cardio activity, I did become frustrated at not being able to exercise. I was acutely aware that it wasn’t good for me not to really move for 9 months.I’d always dismissed Pilates in the past, I’m not proud to admit that, for me, the word ‘pilates’ went hand in hand with the word ‘pensioner’ 😳- but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Pilates has left my core stronger than ever and has changed my body shape dramatically. I can’t believe that I look better post-pregnancy than I did before I’d had my son.
…GOOD FOR THE SOUL
What I’d not anticipated in attending in the pre and post-natal pregnancy Programmes run by Cerisport, was the host of other benefits that came with it too.Ceri’s pilates classes brilliantly prepare you physically for motherhood, but I also found real benefit in the relaxation in pre-natal pilates. It helped me to wind down and actually take a moment to think about me and my baby, rather than rushing around in a busy job.
Motherhood can be tough on you both physically and mentally, with the potential to leave you feeling quite isolated. But sharing the experience with other expectant mums at the studio really enhances the whole programme and I count myself lucky to have made some new friends along the way.
The care and attention from both Ceri and Simon while expecting and since getting to grips with being a new mum was like having an additional support network (outside of the usual health professionals) and I not only credit Ceri for my post-natal physical condition, but also as a huge contributor to my entire post-natal wellbeing.
10 good reasons for practicing Pilates during pregnancy
- It focuses on the deep stabilising/postural muscles of your trunk and spine, helping to give you better posture and improving your core stability.
- The exercises are functional meaning that they help with everyday movements and tasks. The task of motherhood is demanding physically… a body that is strong enough to cope with holding babies, buggies and bags all at the same time can be achieved through practicing Pilates!
- Pregnancy and motherhood can also be mentally demanding…Pilates helps with relaxation techniques and helps clear the mind as you focus during practice.
- Pilates strengthens the pelvic floor muscles which will be put under strain during pregnancy and child birth. Regular practice of pelvic floor exercises will help maintain their strength and help prevent symptoms associated with weakness in that area following pregnancy.
- Pilates will help prevent back and neck aches and pain during pregnancy and beyond. As posture changes during pregnancy due to carrying your baby (or babies!) there is more stress placed on certain muscles for example the lower back which shortens and tightens them causing discomfort. Appropriate Pilates exercises will help to lengthen shorten muscles, strengthen weakened muscles and help avoid neck and back ache commonly associated with pregnancy, especially in the third trimester.
- Pilates will condition the deep abdominals which help you carry the weight of your baby/babies and work hard during delivery. The abdominal exercises practiced in Pilates will help you will get back into shape much quicker after the birth.
- Pilates breathing and relaxation techniques will help you cope with labour and delivery. You will learn how to breathe deeply and effectively at your own pace and how to relax to help you through childbirth.
- Pilates isn’t all about core strength…it will help to strengthen and tone your arms, bottom and legs too keeping you in shape and preparing you for the jobs you have to do being a Mum!
- As pregnancy progresses it is often more difficult to sleep. Practicing Pilates can help with this as you become more aware of how to relax your body and calm your mind. We can work on discovering what feels best in a lying position so that you don’t have to toss and turn for ages trying to get comfortable in bed!
- Any exercise helps to make you feel better in yourself, Pilates is no exception. During pregnancy and beyond allow your body the pleasure of working it.
